MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
We seek help from our doctors and hospitals in times of need. We want to trust in their competence, their dedication, and their concern for us as their patients. But unfortunately medical errors are on the rise. It has been estimated that death caused by medical care or treatment is now the third leading cause of death in the United States. Medical malpractice, or preventable adverse effect of medical care, can occur in the hospital setting or in a doctor’s office or clinic. Medical malpractice includes medication related mistakes, misdiagnosis, surgical complications, over treatment or under treatment. Medical malpractice can result from many factors such as incompetence, lack of experience, overwork/fatigue, and understaffing. We have seen a rise in cases from large institutions where there appears to be a lack of effective communication between the healthcare providers and the patient, as well as between various healthcare providers in different departments or different specialties.
But not every poor outcome is the result of malpractice. We are all mortal, and certain diseases may lead to disability or death despite the best possible care.
We receive many calls and visits from concerned patients, or their loved ones. Our job is to listen, review available medical records and other information, and try to help you understand what happened, and why it happened. We understand the heartbreak and pain which patients and their families experience as the result of injury, disability or death caused by doctors, nurses and facilities in whom we trusted.
Medical malpractice cases are often complicated, requiring an ability to read and understand medical records, and the use of medical expert witnesses. We have decades of experience handling malpractice cases, including a number of multi-million dollar malpractice settlements, judgments and verdicts. We are often sought out by other attorneys to handle these highly complicated cases due to our experience, skill and demonstrated ability in this field.
